THE CARNEGIE DUNFERMLINE TRUST GRANTS AND PROJECTS

Fordell Firs (Grant £2000)
Fordell Firs was awarded a grant of £2000 towards the purchase of a Bell Boat to be used at Lochore Meadows. Bell Boats are very safe and stable and are especially suitable for use by younger children or older people with balance problems. In addition to local Scout groups, the Bell Boat will also benefit other local community and school groups who use the activity centre.

Dunfermline City Hockey Club (Grant £400)
A start up grant of £400 was awarded to this new club to allow them to purchase new goal keeping equipment. The club which was formed in 2010, play at Queen Anne High School within East of Scotland Division 4.

Headroom (Grant £4230)
Talk Matters Counselling Services received a grant of £4230 for the purchase of mobile therapy units and counsellors resources for their children’s counselling service, Headroom. The Headroom project provides for trained counsellors to offer a ‘point of need’ service to primary and secondary school children in Dunfermline. The Counsellors offer one-to-one talking, play and creative therapies to children experiencing family break ups, bereavement, neglect, bullying and low self-esteem.

Hearts & Minds (Grant £5650)
A grant of £5650 was awarded to the Elderflowers programme run by Hearts & Minds, who work with dementia patients in Queen Margaret Hospital. The Elderflowers are a team of carefully selected professional performers who use focused two-on-one activity to engage dementia patients with the performing arts. Using clowning skills, singing, rhythm, games and puppetry, they make meaningful connections with each participant, encouraging communication, interaction and laughter.

Dunfermline District Pipe Band
(Grant £1425)

Dunfermline District Pipe Band was awarded a grant of £1425 to purchase 15 new pipe chanters to enhance the sound quality and level of performance. The Pipe Band had success in the 2010 World Championships held in Glasgow, qualifying through 3 heats to reach the final for their grade.

Eco City (Grant £10000)
In November 2010, children from 6 local primary schools built a model of their vision for Dunfermline 2020 in the Glen Pavilion. Assisted by a professional team of architects, engineers, urban designers, artists and teachers, the children created a large-scale 3D environment reflecting the Dunfermline they want to grow up in, where the needs of all citizens – physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual - are taken into account. A grant of £10000 was awarded to the Eco City Project, overseen by the Children’s Parliament, towards the materials and resources required for the model building week.

Dunfermline Knights Cricket Club
(Grant £2016)

A grant of £2016 was received by the Dunfermline Knights Cricket Club for the purchase of two all weather roll down mats to improve the safety in training within the concrete nets area. Junior members of the club will benefit from the new surface which offers the nearest alternative to natural turf wickets in coaching sessions provided by professional coaches to improve bowling and batting skills.
