About Us

Andrew Carnegie famously established the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust by a hand written letter in 1903 with the purpose of adding value to the lives of the people of Dunfermline, the place of his birth.

Even before the establishment of the Trust he had already endowed Dunfermline with the first public library and public baths and as part of the responsibility of the Trust gifted Pittencrieff Park to the Trustees in perpetuity for public benefit. Today the Trust works to support and initiate projects and activities across a wide range of arts, sport, recreation, education, heritage, community, welfare and tourism. The Trust is governed by Royal Charter with applications and proposals being considered on a regular basis by the Board of Trustees.

To celebrate the centenary in 2003 the Trust funded a significant new play park for children within Pittencrieff Park but most funding is granted for start up, one off projects, collaborative projects and proposals which will make a real difference.
